100 Laps of Healing

ABOUT: On August 17th, 2014, Bill Mather ran 100 laps around the Hillsborough High School Track on behalf of the families supported by Steps Together.  (It was actually 105 laps to make it a full 26.2 marathon distance.) He had run his first 5K with Steps Together so it only seemed fitting that his first marathon be for steps Together. He named his event 100 Laps of Healing and it was a huge success on many levels.  The event raised awareness about Steps Together, awareness about the families we help, it also brought our beneficiaries and community together on the track all while raising funds for our organization.

2019 will mark the 6th 100 Laps of Healing event which has now raised over $30,000 for Steps Together. In 2015, our community came out and walked or ran 5,459 laps or 1,364.75 miles. That's been a record we've been trying to break since that date.  Can you help us in 2019? 

THE EVENT IS FREE! We invite your entire family, all fitness levels, young and old, to come out and be a part of this event. Consider surprising us with your inner wild by wearing something crazy fun!

  • Arrive at the track anytime between 7 AM and NOON.
  • Sign a short waiver (if you didn't register online already) and begin walking or running. Lanes 1 - 3 reserved for runners, 4 - 6 for walkers. 
  • When finished, write the number of laps completed and drop it in the lap jar.
  • No strollers and no dogs!
  • At the end of the event, the laps of our entire community will be tallied.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP:

  • Encourage friends to donate to your effort. (Flat donations and per lap pledges accepted)
  • Organize a team and set a lap goal. Throw in a little competition and challenge another team!
  • Be an event sponsor to bring your own tent, table and signage to put track side. ($250)
  • Be a mile sponsor and Bill will wear your shirt for one of his 26.2 miles. ($25)
  • Make a general donation to Bill just because he’s awesome and running 100 Laps of Healing on the track.
  • Start a fundraising page to raise funds for Steps Together with your own laps!
  • Volunteer
  • Donate food, baked goods or water for our participants.

About the Memorial Scholarship:

On March 29, 2010 Qasim and Ahad Muzaffar were tragically taken from their family, friends, and community. Qasim and Ahad were spirited young men with unique talents. Qasim loved to run, be with his family and friends, and was kind to all. Ahad’s artistic talents were beyond his years. He loved real estate and knew the ins and outs of the market. The Annual Memorial Scholarship has been established to celebrate the lives of Qasim and Ahad. Two scholarships will be awarded to Robbinsville High School seniors. Please join us in remembering the lives of two very special young men.

Skin screening 7:45 AM by   Fox Chase Cancer Center staff.  Pre-Register on-line or by mail before June 1st and be guaranteed a free event tee shirt. The Sprint Triathlon (Individual, Athena, Clydesdale) and an Olympic Triathlon (Individual, Elite, Athena, Clydesdale) will again be held at Round Valley in Lebanon, NJ. Also, new this year is a Swim Run (Individual only).

  • The Sprint Triathlon will be an Individual Triathlon only (no relay, duathlon or aquavelo) with 2 categories to choose from: Clydesdale (Men 220+)/Athena (Women 170+) and Age Group.  The distances will be 0.5 mile Swim, 17 mile Bike, 5K Run. 
  • The Olympic Triathlon will be an Individual Triathlon only (no relay, duathlon or aquavelo) with 3 categories to choose from: Elite, Clydesdale (Men 200+)/Athena (Women 170+) and Age Group.  Distances are: 0.9 mile Swim; 31 miles Bike,  Run 5.8 miles.
  • The Swim Run will be an Individual only Swim Run (no relay, Elite or Clydesdale/Athena).  Distances are Swim: 0.9 mile - Run: 3.7 miles 

Awards:
Sprint Awards: Top 3 Men and Women overall and then Top 3 Men and Women in each age group (5 year age categories). 

Olympic Awards: Elite wave will start in the first wave and will only be eligible for overall awards but Elites will NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR AGE GROUP AWARDS. 

  • Overall Triathlon: Top 5 Men and Women (Elites will win cash prizes and non Elites will win non-cash prizes); Top 3 Men and Women Age groups in 5 year brackets will get non cash prizes (Elites are not eligible for these awards.)

The Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts is proud to host the 18th Annual Berkeley Heights Mother’s Day 5K. This event will raise funds for free after-school music programming. Join our Chronotrack Chip Timed, USATF Sanctioned event with digital clocks at each mile on Mother's Day! 

The Race begins and ends at Memorial Field in Berkeley Heights, NJ.  The course runs through Berkeley Heights neighborhoods on rolling hills and flats. 

Over 1,300 runners from our community and beyond register each year. This event will feature student performances by New Jersey Youth Symphony and the Paterson Music Project along the route. The event will also include activities for the family to enjoy together.

Don't miss the opportunity to join thousands in our 27th Annual Turkey Trot.  All proceeds benefit CEA's mission of facilitating career pathways and community employment for students and adults with disabilities. Last year 5,800+ participants represented 29 states and several countries.

The Turkey Trot 5K run begins at 9:30 am on Thanksgiving morning. There are a total of 67 categories of winners, including male and female, different age categories and teams. All finishers will get a custom finisher medal featuring this year's themed Turkey!

New this year! We are upgrading our race to include corrals.  We are making some slight modifications to the course for runners and walkers. Stay tuned - the new course map will be published soon!

The USATF sanctioned 5K RUN begins at 9:30 AM.

The Cranford Cure Diabetes 5K at Nomahegan Park is held annually to rally support to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, a disease that impacts many people in our communities. Through the growing number of race participants and the generosity of many of our event sponsors and volunteers, we are proud of our partnership and commitment to JDRF.org, the beneficiary of this event.

The Cranford Cure Diabetes 5K is a USATF Sanctioned Event run on a certified course through Nomahegan Park and is part of the USATF-NJ Grand Prix Series.

Race day tee-shirts and goodie-bags will be given to participants during registration that opens at 7:30am (while supplies last). Post-race refreshments will be available and awards given across many categories including: Top 3 Male and Female overall; Top 3 Male and Female Cranford Residents; Top 3 Male and Female Runners with Type 1 Diabetes along with top 3 teams and numerous age group categories.

The Princeton HiTOPS Half Marathon is OFFICIALLY OPEN FOR REGISTRATION.

For the uninitiated, this is an iconic race, featuring a beautiful 13.1 mile course in the very center of historic Princeton. The race will weave past many of Princeton’s most notable and scenic landmarks, such as Albert Einstein’s house, the Princeton Battlefield, Institute of Advanced Study, Princeton University, Lake Carnegie and the Herrontown Woods.

The race will attract 1,750 runners, and several thousand spectators to the tree-lined streets of Princeton, with special weekend accommodation packages available to runners and families from out of town.

This race is managed and produced by HiTOPS, a Princeton based Adolescent Health Education and Development nonprofit. All proceeds support HiTOPS, a Princeton based 501(c)(3) organization providing sexual health education & support for adolescents.

The annual 21 Down Friends and Family Buddy Walk on Saturday, May 4th will be held on the world-famous boardwalk in Atlantic City, just steps from casino resorts and New Jersey’s beautiful miles of beach, at the Atlantic City Steel Pier.  Our new Buddy Walk location is shore to excite you, located at 1000 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ.  Registration and pre-walk activities will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Steel Pier’s Ocean Reef Oasis with our ceremony kick-off at 2:15 p.m., followed by our one-mile walk at approximately 2:30 p.m.  The walk will commence in front of the Steel Pier on the boardwalk starting at Pennsylvania Ave., heading down the boards towards our turn around point at New Hampshire Ave., and return to the Steel Pier.  Festivities will continue after the walk from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00p.m. for our thrill seekers that register for the “Walk/Amusement Ride” combo.  “Walk/Amusement Ride” registrants can enjoy the rides and attractions during the specified time over and over again.  (*Please note “The Wheel” is not included in the ticket price but it is a must do for anyone interested…. It will take you to new heights!)

Festivities for Registered attendees include one mile walk, amusement rides (if purchased), face painting, games, dancing, "character" guests, water beverage, and more.

21 Down is a Down syndrome Awareness Group servicing Atlantic and Cape May Counties.  As our main fundraiser of the year, the Buddy Walk provides a large percentage of the needed resources for 21 Down to fulfill its mission. Every day we make meaningful strides to foster inclusion and to celebrate the lives of individuals with Down syndrome.  There is no better place to show your support than at the Steel Pier at our annual 21 Down Friends and Family Buddy Walk.

Funds raised from past Buddy Walks have been used to fund a number of 21 Down programs, including assistance to new parents with welcome packs; educational seminars at quarterly dinner events with featured speakers; social events including Wildwood Beach Day, Bowling Bonanza, Family Fun Fitness Day, Storybook Land, “Rock Your Socks” World Down Syndrome Day Celebration, and several Dance Parties – Boo Spectacular, Jingle Jam with Santa, and Valentine Social; networking opportunities for moms and dads; and education materials and resources to the community.  In addition, we provide many members with educational and recreational Grants and make donations to programs that support and advocate on the National and Local level of our adored members: National Down Syndrome Society, Challenger Sports, Special Olympics, ARC, Field of Dreams, and Hoops for ALL.

"Spirit Stepper" - Virtual Walker

"SPIRIT STEPPERS" FOR DOWN SYNDROME Can’t Make it to the 21 Down Friends and Family Buddy Walk? Virtual Walking as a “Spirit Stepper” is meant for YOU! Be with us in SPIRIT. There are lots of reasons why people can’t get to our Buddy Walk. It could be that traveling is difficult, or they have a previous commitment that day. Maybe they will be out of town on vacation or even shining in a pageant. It doesn’t matter, you can still help, be with us in SPIRIT, and you can do it from the comfort of your own home. As 21 Down’s main fundraiser of the year, the Buddy Walk provides a large percentage of the needed resources for 21 Down to fulfill its mission. Every day we make meaningful strides to foster inclusion and to celebrate the lives of individuals with Down syndrome. There is no better way to show your support. A “21 Down Spirit Stepper” is a virtual walker who is somebody who wants to fundraise for 21 Down but can’t be present for the 21 Down Friends and Family Buddy Walk itself. As a “21 Down Spirit Stepper - Virtual Walker you use your talents and passions to raise awareness and funds in your own way, but use the “Buddy Walk” and walk software as a vehicle to do so. Spirit Steppers can start their own virtual team, join a “real world” team that is at our Buddy Walk on event day, or they can just be an individual virtual walker. All “Spirit Steppers Registered by 4/21/2019 will receive an event t-shirt via mail, and their photo will be displayed on the “Steppers in Spirit Board and honored at the 21 Down Friends and Family Buddy Walk. (Spirit Stepper Photos are to be submitted to 21downsj@gmail.com no later than 4/21/2019 to be displayed and honored at the Buddy Walk.) Funds raised from past Buddy Walks have been used to fund a number of 21 Down programs, including assistance to new parents with welcome packs; educational seminars at quarterly dinner events with featured speakers; social events including Wildwood Beach Day, Bowling Bonanza, Family Fun Fitness Day, Storybook Land, “Rock Your Socks” World Down Syndrome Day Celebration, and several Dance Parties – Boo Spectacular, Jingle Jam with Santa, and Valentine Social; networking opportunities for moms and dads; and education materials and resources to the community. In addition, we provide many members with educational and recreational Grants and make donations to programs that support and advocate on the National and Local level of our adored members: National Down Syndrome Society, Challenger Sports, Special Olympics, ARC, Field of Dreams, and Hoops for ALL.

The Building Tomorrows 5K Run, Family Walk, and Fun Fest returns for its 21st Anniversary! The 5K Run is a double loop race on a flat, scenic course around a beautiful lake. The race will be timed by Tristate Timing with gun and chip timing, digital race results, and split times. All runners will receive a complimentary doughnut as they cross the finish line, an event t-shirt and free admission to the Fun Fest after the race where you can enjoy live music, activities, food, and more! Awards will be presented to the top three over males, top three overall females, and top three male and female in each age group. Age groups are in 10 year increments, starting at 14 and under through 75 and over. All funds raised will help The Arc of Essex County's mission of helping children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities participate in every level of society to enjoy fuller, more independent lives. The 2nd Annual Delanco (formerly Pennsauken), NJ Run For Resilience Ostomy 5k will be held on Saturday, October 5,  2019.  All proceeds benefit the United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc (UOAA) charity, a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible. (https://www.ostomy.org/)

RACE COURSE

New Location! This year we will be holding a Fun Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run at scenic Pennington Park located in Delanco, NJ.  Encompassing 140 acres, Pennington Park provides outdoor recreation for all to enjoy. With views of the beautiful Rancocas Creek, the park features several habitat types including wetlands, tidal pond and marshland, creek shoreline, and meadows.

Free parking is available in the park.

PACKET PICKUP

Day-of packet pickup will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on October 5th. More information to follow.

Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and top 3 female overall finishers and the top 3 ostomates.

T-SHIRTS

A unisex or female v-neck size Race T-Shirt and race bib are included with your registration fee. To ensure you receive the T-Shirt size you ordered, please register by Friday, September 13th. We will do our best to provide you with the T-Shirt size you ordered or a similar size, however, this is not guaranteed after September 13th.

OPTIONAL OSTOMY POUCH

Race registration bags will have typical race/sponsor promotional items, ostomy education materials, and most importantly an ostomy pouch. We encourage non-ostomate participants to put on the pouch for the race to improve awareness and empathy for the challenges faced by people living with ostomies. 

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

The Run for Resilience Ostomy 5k will be a family friendly event including kids' activities during the event.

Fundraising is an important aspect of our Run for Resilience Ostomy 5K. Funds raised help UOAA continue to provide resources, educational materials, advocacy and support to the ostomy and continent diversion community.

Join us for a 5K run and 1 mile walk to help raise funds for early detection and prevention of childhood cancer. We are doing this in loving memory of Om Parikh, a very energetic 8th grader who taught us how to stay positive, be strong and keep smiling in the face of unthinkable adversity.
